Hey guys!
Welcome to the 7 day sacral chakra study! I am so glad that you are here! This is the second week of the 7 week chakra study. In the next 7 days we are going to open up some inner feelings, emotions, or hidden creative strengths!
*Just a quick side note in case you are new to this, we will be partaking in a Chakra study/cleansing get-to-know-yourself 7 week full body scan that includes 1 week of focus on each of the chakras, which is a system of energy that originates from India dating back to as far as 2000 BCE (a long, long, long time ago!). By learning more about this system, how it works in your body, and how you can connect to the different parts, you will begin to establish a deeper connection between your mind, your body, and your spirit. We are one with the universe my friends.
*If you are new to chakra study and you would like to know more about them, you can preview our article Sacred Chakra Check-In and Show Up.

Let’s Review!
Now that we have worked with our core and began to develop and open our root chakra, we are in a place where we are rooted and secure in foundation. We are ready to begin looking more closely at the creativity in our life, which when it is open and flowing, allows us to build healthy relationships with ourselves and with others. It allows us to make decisions that more likely reflect our own interests, goals, and desires.

The sacral chakra is just above the root. It starts just below the belly button and reaches down through the lower back into our reproductive organs. It is from here where we are most conscious of our needs and desires, and from here we receive and give out energy to others around us. This is why the sacral chakra is associated with water. It is also known as the svadhisthana for “establishing self.” When your sacral chakra is balanced, you are aware of your feelings and how you express yourself to others. You are able to form healthy strong relationships with clear boundaries. You are resilient and able to pick yourself up quickly if you fall. You are motivated to try on new things and ready to break the mold. Finally, there is a shift in your mindset from working to please others and society, to following your own design.

Unfortunately, in a society like ours, we are constantly bombarded by hypnotic images and influences. It can be difficult to separate our own desires from what we are being shown as ‘the right way.’ Also, in many ways, we are, or may feel, confined to our position in life, to a career, to a relationship, or to a financial situation. All of these increase the likelihood that our sacral chakra is blocked. There is an imbalance between who we are ourselves, what we want and desire, and what is expected. It is not always easy to break away. Hence, we are more likely taking on addictive behaviors, having self-doubt or criticism, blaming others for our failures, fearing abandonment, being unnecessarily defensive and aggressive, and using control as a way to keep us feeling firm and grounded. Sometimes our sacral may be overactive. In that sense, we feel we are out of control of our emotions, there seems to be a lot of ups and downs, and we are overly expressive about what we expect or want from others. None of which are healthy patterns of behavior, and all can lead to further destruction. What’s more, is because these patterns are reinforced within our own energy system, we often become unaware of the way we are behaving or treating others. Sadly, the result is potentially losing those people placed in our lives by the divine to be replaced by unbalanced relationships, and this, then, impacts our stability, groundedness, and security.

So, if this is you (or if this is not, and you are just here to explore), you have come to the right place. By spending a full week, 7 days, with this energy wheel, you can get to know yourself and your connection to the sacral more deeply. You can work to open your energy, build skills to help you remain centered, and you can move on to the next level feeling prepared. That being said, on this journey I have given you a set of daily experiences that you can commit to trying. These experiences may include the use of color work, music, crystals, journal reflections, or positive affirmations. Do one, do all...but in so doing any of them, keep your feelers on and have fun! I am so glad you are here to embark on this journey with me!!

Let’s Begin!
Some things that may be helpful to use over the course of this week:
Orange clothing (the root is represented with the color orange. By wearing orange, we can enhance our focus)
Blank mandalas or adult (or children’s) coloring pages and shades of orange crayons, markers, pencils
Journal for reflecting
*I suggest you play sacral music of your choice while writing and coloring
Orange candles
Meditation mat
*Suggested meditation music: sacral focus; guided meditation; sleep music; healing chants; song bowl
Possible crystals to help open the root: Amber, Calcite, Sun stone, purple gemstones, tiger’s eye
Possible incense: cardamom, spearmint, patchouli, sage, rose, chamomile

Happy Rooting!

What happens during Spiritual Awakening?

Picture
You recently began meditating. This is something that you have been seeking  for some time now, and you finally made space in your daily routine to accomplish it. You’ve decided to attempt one of many guided meditations from your favorite youtuber and blogger. This is a new one, and the speaker’s musical voice gently leads you through the process. Bringing your awareness to your core and the energy that lies within you, there is a calmness to this feeling. A warmth and rooted feeling.

Halfway through the meditation, however, you begin to feel ungrounded. It is as if the energy around you suddenly shifts inward as if it is directly coming at you. In your mind’s eye, you begin to see colors or shapes, and flooding emotions take hold of you. Feeling as though you are experiencing something rather scary, you immediately turn off the guided meditation. You announce to the space around you that you don’t like feeling that way. You make the decision to table the meditation efforts until your anxiety dissuades, or your fear of that moment goes away. Yep. Maybe not yet.

I have known people who had an encounter like this that was so uncomfortable that they decided that awakening was less important than they thought. It wouldn’t be until years later, sitting in a room or on the phone (or on google meet) with me, that they would be ready to try it on again. Thankfully, however, what I tell them, and what I am about to tell you, brings them to feel more excitement to the moment than fear. They embrace it.

What I am about to tell you is very important. Actually, crucial to your journey if you have come to this place recently...this experience, my friends, is normal. Actually, it is expected so much so that it even has a jazzy name in the spiritual community; “Spiritual Awakening Anxiety”

What is Spiritual Awakening Anxiety?
Spiritual anxiety comes in many forms. It can wager between fear and emotional uncertainty. But when it comes down to it, this anxiety is our human response to spiritual transformation and the beginning of building a bridge to our higher selves. We are learning how to be more spiritual beings. Connected with the energy within us and around us, it becomes concentrated. We become more aware of it and therefore feel overwhelmed by it, although the energy, itself, has always been there.

How can we manage it?
Now that you know this is normal, your spiritual anxiety will already lessen next time you go to meditate and focus. However, there are techniques that you can do to calm yourself down in order to allow yourself to truly enjoy and live in the present moment. The most important being grounding yourself. I cannot stress this enough. The more grounded you are in yourself, the less likely you are to to be shaken by events or energies surrounding you. Start by giving yourself affirmations. I am grounded. I am safe and secure. The other thing you can do in managing this anxiety is recognizing your emotions and breathing them away. This is part of the process my friend. This is part of the process. No fear.

How to Connect with Spirit

It’s interesting. I am not sure if it is the weather, the change of seasons, or the transition of the Earth and Moon cycle, but every year at this time I seem to have more people reach out to me, than any other time. Friends, friends of friends, and families of those friends, come to me seeking spiritual advice. Asking me to reach out to loved ones on the other side. Hoping and praying for any kernel of connection to lost loves or spiritual understanding. Every year I find myself in the same place. How can I help them reach out to their loved ones? What strategies can I teach them so that they, themselves, can find that connection?

There are so many belief systems out there around this idea of spirit, connecting to spirit, gaining spiritual understandings. There are many perspectives and almost every medium will tell you something different depending on their own understanding and constructs. But the bottom line is, my dear friends, you can connect. Each of us is built with the ability and the capacity to connect with spirit. You see, I don’t hold some special key that only I have access to on the other side. No other spiritual medium, psychic, akashic record reader, shaman, or reiki master does either. WE ALL HAVE THE ABILITY AND THE CAPACITY TO CONNECT. How we do it, ways that we see, hear, or feel it, however, may all be different.

That being said, I am not giving you an end-all, easy opening toolkit that will definitely get you talking to your lost family members or your spiritual guides. Instead, I am giving you some insight into my mind's eye. Into the tools and strategies that I use to make that connection, turn it off if need be, and reconnect at my will. These are strategies that work for me, and, if you try them, I hope that they can work for you too. If not, in the least, they can help you relax, connect with yourself, and feel the love that the universe has for you.

Before you start, find yourself in a “quiet place.” Somewhere you feel safe and comfortable and in control. Clear your mind, have a journal or recorder with you, and dump out your thoughts. Literally, let go of any expectations, thoughts, or concerns. I use meditation music or coffee (lol) to get to my quiet place.

I always begin by grounding myself. I affirm that I am grounded, I am secure. I am safe. This is very important because it allows me to connect to my root and it establishes my boundaries. There is a need to feel the ground beneath me and to be centered with my surroundings. It gives me the sense of control that I need to keep me from feeling too much energy at once.

Once I have established my root, and set my feet in concrete so to speak, I ask for protection and for light and love to surround me. I ask for permission to connect to my guides and spirits, relaying that only those with positive intentions are welcome in my circle, my home, or in my space. I make the declaration that it is my hope to reconnect, teach, support, or relay loving messages to those on this side or the next.

Then I wait. I sit and I wait. With no expectations, I listen carefully to my surroundings, and with my third eye, I feel, I listen, I watch. Sometimes the message is discreet. Like a soft whisper in my thoughts. Other times it is loud, like something being moved near me. Most often, however, it is a gentle touch of a memory, a warm feeling in my heart, pictures in my head, words that come out as I write on paper, or a smell even. Other times, I don’t receive anything right away. It could be days later until I realize any connection, like a song that plays on the radio, or a stranger presents themselves with familiar words.

With that connection, and with any random ones that may come, I give my appreciation. It is important to acknowledge their presence, the love and light that is offered to us, and to say our thank you. In that, I am honoring them and my relationship with spirit, loved ones, and guides on the other side.

In your journey you will have many experiences. Listen carefully, live in the moment, spend time with quiet, and send your love and gratitude out and around you. You will find your connection. You will find your way.

If you find yourself in need of spiritual support or guidance, we are here for you. Connect with us, and we can help you connect. Blessings my friends.

7 Day Root Chakra Healing

Hello lovelies,
Welcome to the 7 day root chakra study! I am so glad that you are here! This is the first week of the 7 week chakra study. In the next 7 days we are going to work out, sweat, and...you said it! Get down to our core, as in our spiritual core!

Let’s Review!
The root chakra is the base of all 7 chakras and it is the closest to the ground, literally. It begins at the base of the spine where the tailbone connects, and moves down through the legs into the feet. It is from here where your feet are planted and you receive and give out energy from or to the earth. This is why the root chakra is also referred to as the ‘earth’ chakra, or the Muladhara for “root base.” When your root chakra is balanced, you are providing the essential doorway to get the rest of your chakra system flowing. I like to think of the root as the foundation of the system. When you have a solid foundation, you have what you need to begin to build the rest of the home, from the ground up.

Imagine, however, that you are trying to build on rocky ground. The soil is lacking nutrients, the ground is shifty, and the earth itself feels uneasy. Survival becomes challenging right? Especially when you are wanting to build a house on this land. In this sense, your root is unbalanced. It is not centered and therefore you may find yourself feeling dislocated. Some other feelings you may have when the root is not grounded include anxiousness, money or financial worries, depression, quick to anger or break down suddenly, disconnected with others on an emotional or spiritual level, or you may even feel like you are missing something and you have a difficult time staying in one place for too long. I also want to add that negative past experiences, particularly from childhood, can have a lasting toll on our sense of self and trust, both of which lie in the root chakra, thus potentially causing even more cracks in the foundation. So, if this is you (or if this is not, and you are just here to explore), you have come to the right place. By spending a full week, 7 days, with this energy wheel, you can get to know yourself and your connection to the root more deeply. You can work on your foundation, build skills to help you remain centered, and you can move on to the next level feeling prepared.

  • Red clothing (the root is represented with the color red. By wearing red, we can enhance our focus)
  • Blank mandalas or adult (or children’s) coloring pages and shades of red crayons, markers, pencils
  • Journal for reflecting
  • *I suggest you play root music of your choice while writing and coloring
  • Red candles

Another side note, if you sense your root off balance, wearing a little red can help regenerate your focus. Keep your intention light and positive, and remember to hold fast and true to your root, your foundation, and who you are. YOU ARE STRONG< GROUNDED<IN CONTROL.

How to Become More Spiritual?

Picture

Recently I was asked
“how do I become more spiritual?” When she asked me this question I had to pause and really think about it. How does one become more spiritual? In essence, being human, alone, is a spiritual endeavor. My natural reply was for her to tell me more, as in what did the term ‘spiritual’ mean to her and what direction was she trying to go with the question itself. As I think back upon our conversation and my candid response. I realize that a better reply to her inquiry would have been to probe her with the question, “well, how connected are you with yourself?”

With that, I could help her gather focused intention around the term ‘spirituality’ itself. You see, when people hear that word, they each have a different thought about what they think it may mean. Most may have a general idea that it is something of the metaphysical or implies something of the spirit, but I have found that there is truly little consensus around what it really MEANS. Reflect on the question yourself, what is spirituality to you?

To return to point, my purpose here is not to break down the meaning of spirituality in hopes to define it for the world, no. My purpose is to bring back that original question that I was asked and take a closer look at it. “How do I become more spiritual?” If you have come with that same question, I offer you some reflection questions for you to answer in hopes that by answering these questions you will be able to redefine your understanding of spirituality and perhaps have an answer to your question that is more specific to your level of need.

  1. Let’s go to that first question I discussed earlier-how connected are you with yourself? As you go to answer this question, think about your self-awareness and your ability to recognize your feelings and emotions at any given point in time. Do you have internal struggles that you need to work through? Sometimes circumstances in our lives draw a lot of energy away from our ability to be aware of ourselves. Some days I find myself in the repetitive process of being a mom, I feel more like a robot and less like a human. When we are self-aware, it helps to align our chakras and to pull us into an even tone with the energy around us.

  1. With this next question, I challenge you to pause throughout the day to reflect. If you find yourself drifting away in the moment, how do you shift your focus and intentions so that you are more in the here-and-now? This one is a hard one because the conscious human mind, alone, doesn’t have the capacity to be alert to everything around us all of the time, it would be overwhelming for our senses. Also, our thoughts can carry us far away from where we are in the present, where our spirit lies. Abraham Maslow, an American psychologist who developed what we as teachers call Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, once wrote, “The ability to be in the present moment is a major component of mental wellness.” I spend more time on this one because this is central to all things spiritual. If it is something you know you need to work towards, this alone will be your first step to help you transform your spiritual connection.

  1. Finally, how connected are you with others? Do you have real-time interactions with people in real-time space? Time is expensive, and how you spend it matters, especially to those that you are trying to maintain relationships with. Hey, I like my technology too, but how balanced are you? When we connect with others, we can recognize our role in their lives, or vice versa, and it gives us better insight into who we are.

In the process of connecting with our spiritual sides and seeking to develop the deeper meaning to life in the present, you may note that much of it is in our own hands. Like anything else, we have to work to have what we want or who we hope to become.

As you push yourself to be more reflective and aware of your day to day, your spiritual progression will become more obvious over time. You will find you are more mindful of your current state of feelings, you will feel more in tune to your body and its individual needs, you will find ways to live in the moment even in times of chaos, and you will have developed stronger relationships with those around you. Your next step would be to identify what you want to work on specifically to get you started with your spiritual practice. That, my dear friend, we will save for another day. Until then, please share your stories with us! We love to hear about your process and your spiritual progression!
